#Adventbookclub: Day One – Small Signs

A number of people on Twitter are reading “Advent and Christmas wisdom from Henri Nouwen” as part of an advent book club #adventbookclub.

Apart from a little confusion about when Advent actually starts, this is a fantastic chance to share thoughts with others from a range of backgrounds, and I am looking forward to seeing and hearing what happens.

Day one has a reflection from Nouwen about wanting God to impress us and others with His power, but needing to acknowledge that one of the amazing things about the Christian story is that is is:

“The small child of Bethlehem, the the unknown man of Nazareth, the rejected preacher, the naked man on the cross, he asks for my full attention”

The challenge set is to “look for one small sign that God is present in my everyday life“.

——–

The break of day,

the winter sun,

the giggling child,

food on the table,

peace in confusion,

friends near and far,

the still, silent voice,

the shouts of creation.
