John 16 (pt 5)

Simple definitions are sometimes still the best:

In a little while” could well mean “sometime soon”.

But we dare not take the easy route here –

And so instead draw circles of debate to discuss the nuances,

The scope of little, the form of while,

How we should wait – what we should do or avoid in the meantime,

And the Lord disappears, and returns unrecognised,

While we bicker and battle in His name…

.

“At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?” They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.” [John 16:17-18]
